FAQ
How engagements work.
Pricing, billing, commitment, and what sits outside our scope.
- How is this different from my CPA?
- Your CPA looks backward: taxes, compliance, and making sure the books are right. We look forward: which desks and service lines make money, where growth should go, and whether the business is ready for a buyer. Most clients have both.
- Why not hire a full-time CFO?
- Most firms between $5M and $50M don't need forty hours a week of CFO work, and a full-time CFO is a six-figure commitment before benefits. Fractional gives you the same level of thinking for the hours the business actually needs, and it scales as you grow.
- How is pricing set?
- Every engagement begins with a written scope and a fixed price. No hourly billing, no surprises.
- How are projects billed?
- 50 percent at signing and 50 percent on delivery. Work begins on receipt of the deposit.
- How are retainers billed?
- Monthly in advance. Invoices are net 30.
- What is the commitment?
- Retainers run month to month after an initial term. Either side can end with 30 days notice.
- Do you do tax, audit, or legal work?
- No. Those belong with your CPA and your attorney, and we are glad to work alongside them.
- Do you do bookkeeping?
- We don't do day-to-day bookkeeping ourselves. We oversee it, train the people doing it, and can bring in help when you need more hands.
- Do you only work with healthcare staffing?
- Our deepest experience is in healthcare staffing and locum tenens, but staffing economics are consistent across the industry. We work with staffing and placement firms of all kinds.
- Where do you work?
- Fully remote, serving firms across the United States.
- What do you need from us to start?
- Usually recent financials, a list of clients and placements, and a short conversation with you and whoever runs your books. We send a specific list once the scope is set.
- Where should I start?
- Most firms start with a Diagnostic. If it is not the right fit, we will tell you.

Ask it on a short call. If a Diagnostic makes sense we will scope it, and if it does not we will say so.
